COLUMBIA -- Mt. Juliet Christian Academy’s basketball teams picked up a pair of road wins Monday afternoon, sweeping at Zion Christian Academy in Maury County. The Lady Saints of Coach David Kitchen improved to 7-10 on the season with a 34-19 victory in the opener. Sarah Worden led a balanced Lady Saint attack with eight points. Emily Threadgill and Abbey Mangrum each scored seven points while Leanna Sanders and Cali Beard notched six points apiece. Trailing 8-6 after one period, MJCA rallied to take a 17-10 advantage at intermission. The victory marked the sixth over the past eight outings for the Lady Saints. The boys of Mt. Juliet Christian Academy rolled to a 61-47 victory in the nightcap -- improving to 6-9 on the season. MJCA ninth grader Drew Hutchison led all scorers with 19 -- including three 3-pointers. Austin Wortman clicked for 13 points while Devin Bradshaw and T.J. Roberts each added eight points. The Saints led 28-23 at intermission and expanded that lead to 53-34 after three. On Saturday, the Lady Saints traveled to McMinnville and held off a late push to defeat Boyd Christian 45-39. MJCA led 28-18 at the half, but was outscored 21-17 over the final two quarters. Mangrum led the way with 14 points while Threadgill chipped in with 10. The Saints came out on the short end of a 65-60 decision to Boyd in the nightcap -- trailing 48-37 after three. Daniel Harden had 16 and Hutchison 14 in the loss. MJCA will host Webb School Friday, Jan. 23.
