COMMANDERS WIN 13th STRAIGHT MT. JULIET -- Friendship Christian easily handled Mt. Juliet Christian Academy Tuesday in a District 8A basketball doubleheader. The Lady Commanders sped to an early 17-5 lead en route to a 73-34 decision in the opener. Four FCS players reached double figures, including: Carly Warmath with 18, Katy Vaughan with 15, Andi Morrisett with 13 and Lacey Farmer added 10. The Lady Commanders improved to 6-1 in the district and 11-6 overall. MJCA was led by Sarah Worden with 16, including a pair of 3-pointers. Paige Hudson also hit two 3-pointers and finished with seven points. The Lady Saints dropped to 0-7 in league play, 7-11 overall. In Tuesday’s nightcap, the Commanders won for the 13th consecutive time, running past MJCA 79-63. FCS coach Matt Bradshaw cleared his bench with 4:40 left in the game as his team had mounted a 72-41 advantage. Lee Maasen had 31 for the winners while Parker Teeter added 19 and Isaac Wilson chipped in with 10. The Saints kept up a steady barrage of 3-pointers as Grant Keen (19 points) and T.J. Roberts (14) each fired in four long-range shots. Ninth grader Drew Hutchison added 14. Friendship (16-2 overall, 7-0 in District 8A) will host Clay County Friday at 6 p.m. while MJCA (6-10, 0-7) will entertain Webb School from Bell Buckle Friday night. |
