EXCLUSIVE -- The honors keep rolling in for Wilson Central basketball standout Jasmine Hassell.
Notified earlier this week she will is a finalist to repeat as Class AAA Miss Basketball in Tennessee, the University of Georgia signee has been selected to the 2009 McDonald’s All American Girls Basketball Team.
She will join the basketball elite as a member of the East team in the McDonald’s All American High School Basketball Game to be played Wednesday, April 1 in Miami at BankUnited Center on the University of Miami campus.
As a McDonald’s All American, Hassell will play among the top 24 female high school basketball players in the nation in what many basketball experts consider the premier high school all star game in the country.
Hassell has a 20 points-per-game average for the Lady Wildcats and has scored over 2230 career points.
"Jasmine Hassell is one of the sharpest young ladies I have met. Her selection is a testament to her hard work on and off the courts," said Ted Bertuca Jr., owner/operator of several McDonald’s Restaurants in Middle Tennessee. "It is an honor for the entire community to have her represent us in Miami."
"Jasmine is truly deserving of this tremendous honor," said Wilson Central head coach Brandon. "For a young lady who has achieved as much as she has, she is one of the most humble. I’ve been around good basketball players and good coaches my whole life and I know how blessed I am to coach someone of Jasmine’s quality. She is a remarkable young lady, who will represent her teammates, school, and community and Tennessee proudly."
The McDonald’s All American Girls Game will be part of a double header, tipping off before the 32nd annual Boys Game.
The Girls Game begins at 5:30 p.m. (EST) and will broadcast on ESPNU. The Boys Game starts at 8:00 p.m. (EST) and will broadcast live on ESPN.
