LAVERGNE -- Stepping up when her team needed her the most, 2009 Class AAA Miss Basketball finalist Jasmine Hassell scored 27 points Monday to lead Wilson Central to a 58-45 win over Smyrna in the District 9AAA tournament finals.

With the victory, Central improved to 25-5 on the season and will host Henry County Friday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Region 5AAA tournament.

Hassell put up 19 first half points as the Lady Wildcats rolled to a 34-14 lead at intermission. Ieshia Hassell chipped in with 12 points while Kelsey McGee added 10. Jessyca Christopher finished with nine points, including a pair of first half 3-pointers and Lauren Wasson added three points.

Both Hassell sisters, Jasmine and Ieshia, were named to the all-tournament team as were Christopher and McGee.

LaVergne 53, Mt. Juliet 51 -- LaVergne came back from a 12-point, third-quarter deficit to beat Mt. Juliet 53-51 in the District 9AAA consolation game Monday.

Jasmine Dale’s inside bucket with 51 seconds remaining gave the Lady Wolverines (20-7) a 50-49 lead. La Quinta Jefferson pushed the lead to 51-49 on a free throw after rebounding a Mt. Juliet missed shot. But Jefferson missed the second and Mt. Juliet (22-7) had a chance to tie it with 14.9 seconds left.

However, the Lady Bears turned the ball over inbounding the ball. Dale then sealed the win with two free throws. Jefferson led all scorers with 22 points, including six in the final 5:55. Jefferson’s 3-pointer with 5:01 left tied the game 45-45. Dale added 14 points.

Freshman post Caya Williams led Mt. Juliet with 21 points. Britt Bell added 13.

Williams was Mt. Juliet’s lone representative on the all-tournament team.

Mt. Juliet must now travel to District 10AAA champion Clarksville High Friday for the first round of the Region 5AAA tournament. Friday’s winner advances to the regional semifinals next week at Hendersonville High.
