CUMBERLAND IMPROVES TO 8-8
DAYTONA BEACH, FL -- Michael Wheeler’s two-run single in the sixth scored the winning runs Cumberland in a 7-6 victory over No. 6 Bellevue Wednesday in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Wheeler, a former Friendship Christian all-stater, went 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored in the victory as the Bulldogs improved to 8-8 on the season.
Matt Greener collected a pair of hits and scored once. Kyle West also drove in a pair of runs, including a solo homer in the third inning.
Canadian Shawn Schaefer (1-1) picked up the win for Cumberland, tossing a complete game. The lefthander allowed six runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out seven.
Kyle Wink (0-1) took the loss for Bellevue (1-3), giving up four earned runs on seven hits in six innings. He walked seven and struck out six
CU got on the board in the third with West’s solo homer, his second of the season.
The Bulldogs open play in the TranSouth Conference Friday, March 13 at home with Bethel College.
