BASEBALL TEAM NOW 14-14 LEBANON -- Memphis native Matt Holliman hit a three-run home run and scored three times to lead Cumberland’s 14-0 victory over Georgetown College Tuesday at Ernest L. Stockton Field. The victory was Cumberland’s fourth in a row and evened the team record at 14-14 on the season. Holliman was one of six CU players with multiple hits, collecting two, while Mike Wheeler and Zack Diekmann both recorded three hits and Max Kautz scored three times. The Bulldogs racked up 18 hits in the contest, including six doubles, a triple and Holliman’s three-run homer -- his fourth of the season. Lefty Adam Sprague (3-3) tossed six shutout innings, striking out five. The Winter Park, FL native scattered four hits in six innings of work and did not walk a batter. Eric Spivey allowed one hit but struck out a pair in the seventh. The Tigers (14-15) were set down in order in the first, second, fifth and sixth innings by Sprague, and no Georgetown runner reached third base against the lefthander. The home team exploded for seven runs in the fourth on seven hits, starting with a Matt Greener single. Kautz followed with a sacrifice where he reached safely. Diekmann followed with an RBI single up the middle and Clint Alexander had a two-run triple to center. After a pitching change Sam Kikla was hit with one out before Holliman belted his home run. Wheeler followed with a double and Greener doubled home the run with two outs for a 9-0 Bulldogs lead. Cumberland hosts Tennessee Wesleyan Wednesday at 2 p.m. and then heads to Lyon College this weekend for a TranSouth Conference series starting Saturday at Noon. |
