NINE BULLDOGS EARN HONORS

JACKSON -- Cumberland University’s resident hall of famer Woody Hunt picked up yet another accolade Monday as the TranSouth Conference postseason awards were announced. Coach Hunt was voted conference Coach of the Year for leading his Bulldogs to the conference regular season title.

Second baseman Sam Kikla, shortstop Matt Holliman, outfielder Michael Wheeler and pitcher Robert Post were all named first team all-conference.

Catcher Kyle West, outfielder Max Kautz and pitchers Shawn Schaefer and Richard Timbrook were named second team all-conference.

West and third baseman Matt Greener were named to the conference Golden Glove team.

Cumberland had 12 players named TranSouth Conference Scholar Athletes. Players are named TranSouth Scholar athletes for accumlating at least a 3.0 GPA as a sophomore, junior, or senior in academic standings. Many of these athletes will go on to earn NAIA Scholar Athlete awards (3.5 GPA for juniors and seniors).

Cumberland honorees include: Clint Alexander, Matt Burton, Will Curry, Briggs Dixson, Chris Fanning, Max Kautz, Jeremy Malmendier, Corey Merrill, Robert Post, Blake Simmons, Matt Vance and Lee Verweel.

Lyon College had 10 players named Scholar Athlete while Union had eight and Freed-Hardeman seven.
