FORMER ATHLETES ARE ELIGIBLE LEBANON -- The Blue Devil Booster Club of Lebanon High School has announced that they will award a $1000 scholarship to one former Blue Devil athlete. The scholarship will be called the "Always a Blue Devil" scholarship. " ‘Once a Blue Devil, Always a Blue Devil’ is our motto at Lebanon High," says Booster Club President Bobby Pruitte. " This scholarship is our way of putting that into practice." The scholarship is open to any LHS grad who participated in any sport as an athlete, trainer, or manager during his or her senior year at LHS and has achieved at least a junior status in college. Applicants do not have to participate in athletics in college to qualify. Applicants who are already on a full ride scholarship are ineligible. This brings the number of scholarships funded by the Blue Devil Booster Club each year to nine. The club already awards eight $1000 scholarships each year to deserving Blue Devil senior athletes. But this is the first time they’ve aided their former athletes. "There aren’t as many scholarship opportunities available for college upperclassmen", said Pruitte. "We’re hoping to get the word out to our former Blue Devils who are juniors or seniors in college that they can apply for ours. We haven’t forgotten them." He added, "If this goes well we plan to make this an annual scholarship." All former LHS athletes meeting the above qualifications are urged to apply. Applications may be picked up at Lebanon High. They must be turned in by US mail only to Blue Devil Booster Club, PO Box 253 Lebanon, TN 37088 no later than July 1, 2009. The winner will be selected by the administration of LHS. Anyone with questions may contact Pruitte at 615-364-2862. |
