By DONOVAN STEWART The start of the 2009 district season saw some good individual performances, exciting endings and all around good games. Ensworth Bullies MBA - The new kids on the block showed MBA how to run the football pushing the Big Red around as Orleans Darkwa ran for 342 yards and scored five touchdowns in a 50-21 Ensworth win. The Tigers scored early and often and led 28-7 at the half and Darkwa was dominant as he had huge holes all night. Ensworth broke the Big Red’s 15-game home winning streak. White Station whips Whitehaven - A week after surviving vs. Ridgeway, the Spartans made some major adjustments to beat district 16-AAA rival Whitehaven 33-13. White Station, still undefeated at 3-0, got three touchdown passes by quarterback Anthony Hayes and two scores by Julian Burton -- one at wide receiver, the other on a 60 yard fumble return that staked the Spartans to a 20-7 lead at the half.4.Baylor 3-0 NR By DONOVAN STEWARTThe start of the 2009 district season saw some good individual performances, exciting endings and all around good games. Austin East over Fulton 20-14 - Normally having 84 yards of total offense doesn’t lead to a win but teams don’t have Austin East’s defense. AE quarterback Ricshon Johnson threw two touchdown passes including the game-winner as the Roadrunners beat the Falcons for the second straight season. The Roadrunner defense then took over as they tackled Class 4A’s No.1-ranked team 12 times behind the line of scrimmage. RBS Wins Again - What a win will do for a program. When the Bulldogs defeated Oakdale in Week Zero, it broke a 61 game losing streak and made first year coach Kyle Shoulders a legend in the community. After a week off, the Bulldogs trailed Pickett County 22-16 with 1.8 seconds left and came up with a big play for the win. RBS quarterback Cody Dickens hit wide receiver Shelton Watson for a 24 yard touchdown as time expired to give the Bulldogs a 23-22 win.
