SOGGY BEARS WIN IN DOUBLE OT HENDERSONVILLE -- Mt. Juliet overcame a 30-minute delay for rain and lightening to defeat Hendersonville 44-37 in double overtime Friday, Sept. 18. Quarterback Reed Gurchiek’s 10-yard keeper in the final overtime was the difference maker as the Commandos fumbled the ball away on their third down play. The Golden Bears remained undefeated at 4-0 (2-0 in District 9AAA) while Hendersonville slipped to 2-2 / 1-1. Chris Bazile paced the MJ offensive attack with 136 yards on nine attempts. Mt. Juliet will host Kenwod High Friday, Sept. 25. GAINESBORO -- Friendship Christian stayed perfect at 5-0 overall (3-0 in Region 4A) Friday night with a 42-0 whitewashing of Jackson County High. Dekolas Reeves scored a pair of first half touchdowns for the Commanders, who will host Pickett County Sept. 25 for a 7:30 p.m. homecoming tilt. BYRDSTOWN -- Dylan Holycross scored three touchdowns as Watertown High ripped Pickett County 44-6 Friday, Sept. 18. All told, Holycross rushed for 246 yards on 18 carries as the Purple Tigers improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in Region 4A. Watertown visits Monterey Friday, Sept. 25. GALLATIN -- Wilson Central slipped to 0-5 on the season with a 33-0 loss to Gallatin Sept. 18 at the Wave Yard. Cody Matthews scored three touchdowns for the Green Wave -- who improved to 3-1 overall / 1-1 in District 9AAA. Wilson Central will visit Nashville McGavock Friday, Sept. 25. MT. JULIET -- Lancaster Christian rang up 22 fourth quarter points Friday night en route to a 58-0 victory over Mt. Juliet Christian Academy Sept. 18 at Suey Field. The Saints dropped to 0-4 on the season with the loss. MJCA visits Nashville Christian Sept. 25 in a 7:30 p.m. contest. |
