McKENZIE -- Rafael Karaoglan scored in the 66th minute and Armando Orozco netted an insurance goal in the 89th minute, giving top-ranked Bethel Univ. a 2-0 victory over Cumberland in the semifinals of the TranSouth Men’s Soccer Championships Tuesday afternoon. Cumberland (6-7-2) ends the season after winning for the first time in the conference tournament since 2005 when the Bulldogs won the regular season and the tournament. Bethel (14-0-3), the defending national champion, moves on to the tournament finals this Friday. The Wildcats outshot CU, 18-4, in the match, though CU keeper Michael Michailidis made seven saves to keep it close. Thirteen of Bethel shots came in the second half after a scoreless first period. Karaoglan put Bethel on the board in the 66th minute on an assist from Dawyne Smith and Eric Rosas, and Orozco’s tally in the final two minutes came from Felix Obilo. |
