LEBANON -- One day after receiving TranSouth Conference Player of the Week accolades, Cumberland University’s Brandon Springer was honored by the NAIA as the National Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday.

Springer, who was chosen from a pool of 12 conference players of the week, recorded three double-doubles last week, leading Cumberland (7-13, 4-3) to a 2-1 record that included a win over then-No. 18 Union University.

For the week, he went 28-of-56 (50 percent) from the field and 15-of-17 (88 percent) at the free throw line, averaging 24.3 points per game. The senior also tallied 10.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.3 steals per contest.

The Hunters Lane High School product, who leads the Bulldogs in scoring, rebounds, assists and steals, is averaging 24 points per contest, which is tied for the highest in the nation. Springer scored 31 points in last Saturday’s loss to Martin Methodist, marking the fifth time he topped 30 points and the 15th time he scored at least 20.

Springer is also pulling down 10.4 rebounds per outing, ranking eighth nationally in that category.
