MAYFIELD, KY -- Cumberland University's baseball team ran its winning streak to 16 consecutive games Thursday with a doubleheader sweep of Mid-Continent University. Coach Woody Hunt's team won the opener 7-3, then took the nightcap 12-0 in five innngs -- improving to 45-8 overall / 16-2 in the TranSouth Conference. Greg Appleton hit two homers, drove in four runs and scored four times to pace the offense in Thursday's second game. Starter Aaron Wilkerson (10-1) won his tenth consecutive decision, scattering three hits in four innings of work. The big righty struck out five. In the opener, Sam Kikla drilled a pair of hits including a solo homer in support of Shawn Schaefer (11-0). Schaefer worked six innings, allowed six hits, walked two and struck out six. Cumberland will wrap up the regular season Friday with a 2 p.m., nine-inning game against the Cougars.
