Paul Townsend has resigned as head football coach at Mt. Juliet Christian Academy in order to take a teaching and coaching position at Wilson Central High. Townsend coached four seasons at MJCA after having spent several seasons at Donelson Christian Academy.

“Four years ago I came to MJCA with a vision to continue to grow the football program. I believe the program has not only grown but also improved,” Townsend said Tuesday morning.

“The program has gone from 18 players the first season to nearly 30 at this time. There have been numerous school records, all--region players, as well as, a TSWA all-state player during my tenure. It has been my privilege to coach at MJCA and be a part of these great things. I hope that the players I am leaving behind will use the experiences of the past four years as building blocks for the future.

"Parents, I want to thank you, for your unwavering support and the honor of coaching your sons. It is with a heavy heart that I am resigning as head football coach, but with that said, I look forward to a new opportunity for my family. I want to thank Coach (Paul) Christensen and the school administration for the opportunity to coach here, and I wish MJCA Athletics future success.”

Townsend will coach wide receivers and oversee the football weight lifting / conditioning program at Wilson Central under first year head coach Brad Dedman.

Townsend will teach physical education at Wilson Central.
