JOLIET, Illinois -- No. 2-ranked Cumberland University got a complete game shutout from lefty Adam Sprague and three hits from hometown boy Dave Weyer Tuesday night in an 8-0 win over Robert Morris in the first round of the NAIA regional at Silver Cross field.

CU improved to 51-9 on the season and will play Campbellsville (41-20) Wednesday at 3 p.m. in a second round game. Robert Morris dropped to 41-17 and will play in an elimination game Wednesday.

Sprague (7-2) went the full nine innings, throwing a career high 138 pitches. He struck out nine and scattered 10 hits.

"Adam did very well," said CU coach Woody Hunt, "he led off our conference tournament last week and got us a win, so he was prepared and ready to go. I was proud of the job he did."

Sprague was aided by two double plays turned by his defense.

Chicagoland native Weyer ripped three hits and scored a pair of runs in front of his hometown friends and family. In fact, the bottom of the CU order -- Weyer, Max Kautz and T.J. Murphy -- accounted for seven hits and scored five runs.

Leadoff man Greg Appleton was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
