6-1 BULLDOGS THUMP HIWASSEE

Cumberland will travel to Huntsville, AL Saturday evening to take on Oakwood University. Coach Lonnie Thompson’s team will take a long break before playing at home Saturday, Dec. 17 vs. Auburn Montgomery in a 2 p.m. tip-off.

CU improved to 6-1 on the season following Wednesday night’s 91-51 victory over Hiwassee College at the Dallas Floyd recreation Center.

Redshirt freshman Daniel McFadden scored 15 points, hitting a trio of 3-pointers, and Moritz Dern and Lamar Brinkley each added 10 points.

McFadden, a Nashville native who attended Ensworth School before redshirting last season at Birmingham Southern, missed the first six games of the season with a foot injury but made 6-of-10 shots, including 3-for-4 from behind the arc, in 20 minutes of action in his debut -- leading all scorers.

All 14 CU players scored in the victory, with Brinkley adding seven rebounds in 14 minutes of action and Charles Stewart scoring just two points but handing out six assists.

The Bulldogs put together a 23-4 run in the first half that included eight different players scoring, 3-pointers from Andrew Ayodeji, Dern and Adam Barnett and finished off with a thunderous dunk by Brinkley. CU shot 46 percent in the period and scored 16 points off 12 Hiwassee turnovers.

Brinkley and Kyle Upton each netted seven points in the period for Cumberland, as the home team took a 42-17 advantage.

The second half was much the same, with CU pushing the advantage to 32 after an Ayodeji layup with 13:40 remaining.

McFadden’s 3-pointer from the wing gave the Bulldogs an 84-45 lead with 4:28 to play.

Justin Browner scored 10 points for the Tigers (3-8).
