Central tops Perry Co. (Ky.) in Gatlinburg PDF Print E-mail

GATLINBURG -- Wilson Central staged a dramatic fourth quarter rally and defeated Perry County (Ky.) 65-59 in the opening round of the Smokey Mountain Classic Tuesday, Dec. 20 at Pittman High School.

The Wildcats trailed 46-38 after three periods, but out scored Perry County 27-13 over the final eight minutes. Coach Troy Bond’s team improved to 9-1 on the season with the win.

Dee Oldham paced the Wildcats with 25 points while Conner Brandon knocked down four 3-pointers and finished with 16. Jacob Williams also cracked double figures with 13 points, including one 3-pointer.

(boys) Friendship 48, Montgomery Central 44
NASHVILLE -- Friendship Christian got 13 points from Mark Sandovol and 12 from Dalton Patterson in Tuesday’s 48-44 win over Montgomery Central in the East Literature Christmas Classic.

The Commanders, who  improved to 6-1 on the season, got seven points from Drew Hutchison and six from Allen Heaston.

Friendship is idle until they play Pope John Paul II Tuesday, Dec. 27 at Middle Tennessee Christian in Murfreesboro.

(girls) Friendship 68, Montgomery Central 67
NASHVILLE -- Down 11 points going into the fourth quarter, Friendship Christian’s Lady Commanders staged a valiant comeback and knocked off Montgomery Central 68-67 in the East Literature Christmas Classic.

Trailing 52-41, FCS outscored Montgomery Central 27-15 in the fourth period, improving to 3-4 on the season.

Post player Deja Jones had 30 points for the winners while Andi Morrisett drilled a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 23.

(girls) Pickett Co. 54, Watertown 46
Watertown’s Tigerettes slipped to 8-4 on the season following a tough 54-46 loss to Pickett County Tuesday, Dec. 20. WHS led 38-32 after three quarters, but watched the Lady Bobcats close out the game on a 19-5 run.

Watertown’s Morgan Gartner had 19 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter while Jordan Brewington and Hayley Clark each had seven points.

The Tigerettes will host Monterey tuesday, Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Watertown Christmas Tournament.

(boys) Watertown 56, Pickett County 51
KeAnDre Bates’s double-double (16 points / 10 rebounds) helped Watertown to a 56-51 victory over Pickett County Tuesday night.

Ty Jobe added 10 points while Josiah Smith added nine for the winners. Watertown sank 12-of-16 at the free throw line (75 percent).

The Tigers moved to 10-1 with the win and will host Monterey Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 8:30 p.m. in the Watertown Christmas tournament.
