| Local baseball players earn Nashville Oldtimers scholarships |

Three Wilson County prep baseball players will receive $1,000 college scholarships at the 74th annual Nashville Old Timers Baseball Association banquet Thursday, Jan. 26 at the Millennium Maxwell House. Since 1999 the Old Timers Baseball Association of Nashville has awarded 122 scholarships worth well over $250,000. Local recipients include: Dent Burger, Lebanon High. Son of William and Audrey Burger, the righthanded pitcher carries a 3.64 GPA, is in the Beta Club, and was voted Homecoming King and Mr. Lebanon High School. He is also involved in the Spanlish Club and DECA. He plans on attending UT-Knoxville. Connor Gaines, Friendship Christian. The power hitting first baseman is the son of Kevin and Lisa Gaines. An all-state selection in football, Gaines carries a 3.71 GPA. In addition to baseball, he is involved in the Key Club, Spanish Club, National Honor Society, Youth Leadership Wilson and FCA. Forrest Goodwin, Mt. Juliet High infielder. He’s the son of Todd and Chancie Goodwin and is involved in the Beta Club, Student Council Executive Board, FCA and National Honors Society. He carries a 4.577 GPA and is ranked number one in the Class of 2012 class. He plans on attending Harvard. |
