Cumberland’s Chipper Smith was named the TranSouth Conference Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.

Smith, a junior lefty, tossed a four-hit shutout Friday, Feb. 17 against Lindsey Wilson.

Smith allowed just six total baserunners in seven innings, including two in the first inning. He did not walk a batter and struck out six to pick up his first victory of the season. Only one Blue Raider reached second base in the 2-0 Bulldog win.

Smith has struck out 17 and walked just three in 17.0 innings of work this season but has only a 1-2 record with a 3.18 earned-run-average.

Cumberland hosts Point Park University in a doubleheader this Saturday at 12 Noon before embarking on a nine-game road trip starting February 29 at 18th-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan.
