|WCIT baseball tourney starts today at three local venues|
|Wednesday, March 21, 2012|
Mother Nature and the elements have always been the common opponent for baseball teams playing in the annual Wilson County Invitational Tournament -- set to crank up Wednesday.
Rain has played havoc with the event for the past several years, forcing last minute schedule changes and moving games from site to site. Weather might enter into the picture again this year as thunderstorms are in the forecast for Thursday and Friday.
Four venues will be utilized this year, Mt. Juliet, Wilson Central, Lebanon’s Veterans Field and Friendship Christian -- all with lights.
Action is set to start Wednesday with pool games at three sites, including: Clarksville at Mt. Juliet High; Macon County at Wilson Central and Father Ryan at Friendship. First pitch at all three venues is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Pool play will decide seedings for a single-elimination tournament which will begin Saturday at 1 p.m. Pool champions will play Sunday in a final four at 2 p.m. followed by the championship game at 5 p.m.
Sites of Sunday’s play will be determined by field conditions and pool winners.
Final pool games to be played Saturday, before the start of the elimination round.
