It’s been a few days since the pads went on and most local varsity football teams will be taking part in scrimmages later this week. Lebanon High will visit Riverdale Friday evening while Watertown’s Purple Tigers host Jo Byrns High. Wilson Central heads to Nashville to work against East Literature Magnet; Mt. Juliet High will scrimmage BGA and Franklin High Friday at Franklin. Friendship Christian will scrimmage at Davidson Academy on Friday while Mt. Juliet Christian Academy will hold a regular practice. Middle school action - Winfree Bryant Middle School and Wilson Central High will both host middle school jamborees Saturday. Wilson Central’s jamboree will start at 4 p.m. Saturday with an admission of $5 per person. Participating teams include: Macon County, Station Camp, Southside, Mt. Juliet Middle, Hartsville and West Wilson. Wilson Central’s ninth graders will play the Donelson Christian junior varsity in two running clock periods beginning at 7 p.m. Winfree Bryant's jamboree starts at 5 p.m. and will feature four periods of action with WBMS participating in all four / alternating varsity with second teamers and junior varsity. Former LHS AD dies -- Funeral services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1 at Oak Grove Methodist Church in Lextington for former Lebanon High athletic director / administrator Denise Houston Joyner, 49. A career educator, Dr. Joyner died late Sunday, July 29, 2012 in Jackson following a battle with cancer. She served as an athletic director at LHS during the 2008-09 academic year. Blue Devil football players will be selling $10 tickets this week as well as $10 tickets for a $1,500 ping pong ball drop - sponsored by local law firm Tressler & Associates, PLLC. |
