LaVERGNE — Down 12-6 at intermission, Wilson Central mounted a strong second half rally to win 26-12 Friday at LaVergne.

The Wildcats, now 2-0 on the season, drew first blood with a one-yard quarterback draw by Jordan Roundtree with 4:09 left in the first quarter.

The Wolverines drove the length of the field with Willie Cowan marching into the end zone virtually untouched on a 30-yard carry at the 10:57 mark of the second period.

On the very next drive, LaVergne found paydirt again when quarterback C.J. Fore scrambled out of the pocket before firing a laser into the back of the end zone to receiver J.J. Horner for six points and a 12-6 Wolverine lead with 3:27 to go before intermission.

The Wildcats’ run defense rose to the occassion in the second half, holding the Wolverines to only four first downs after the break.

Offensively, Wilson Central fullback Trey Givens acted as the team’s workhorse taking the brunt of the offensive carries. Givens finished the night with 89 yards on 11 carries and a rushing touchdown.

Freshman wingback Gabe Angel helped seal the deal with a pair of third quarter jet sweeps around the left side for touchdowns that put the game out of reach.

Wilson Central will host Hendersonville High in the home-opener Friday, Aug. 31.
