DAYTON -- Kelsey Langille and Shauna Gilpin each netted a hat trick and Taylor Nay added two assists in Cumberland’s 7-0 season-opening victory at Bryan College Tuesday night.
Langille, a freshman from Androssan, Alberta, scored in the 22nd and 23rd minutes, the second one on an assist from Gilpin, to give the Bulldogs an early lead. Simone Quinn headed in a corner kick from Nay in the 32nd minute to a 3-0 CU lead at the half.
After the break Gilpin, a sophomore from St. John’s, Newfoundland, got into the act, finding the back of the net in the 53rd and 60th minutes, both unassisted. Langille added her third goal of the night in the 66th minute with a helper from freshman Meaghan Lyons and Gilpin finished off the scoring in the 69th minute on Nay’s second assist of the match.
Lindsay Kitson picked up the win in net for Cumberland, making two saves and facing just five total shots, while Bryan keeper Alex Lewis was under a steady barrage from the Bulldogs, making 14 saves against 33 total shots.
Cumberland heads to McKenzie for a pair of matches this weekend, facing Midland [NE] University on Saturday and University of Science and Arts on Sunday before opening the home schedule on Thursday, Sept. 6 versus Martin Methodist.
