Tonight's prep football schedule PDF Print E-mail
Friday, September 21, 2012

Wilson County’s three Class 1A football teams will be at home tonight as the prep football schedule hits the halfway point. Two of the larger schools, Wilson Central and Lebanon, will be on the road this evening while Mt. Juliet High sits this one out with an idle week.

Monterey at Watertown

Watertown Coach Gavin Webster's Watertown Purple Tigers will host Monterey tonight in a 7 p.m. game at Robinson Stadium. The Purple Tigers are coming off a 45-8 win over Pickett County last week and stands 4-0 overall  / 2-0 in Region 4A. Monterey, 3-2 / 2-1 region, are coming off a 42-8 loss to Class 1A titan Gordonsville.

Tonight's winner will have a leg up on the other for postseason consideration. The Wildcats run a modern version of the single wing offense, a plan that is centered around a big, veteran offensive line.

Pickett County at Friendship
Coming off a tough loss at Watertown last week, Pickett County get no relief ss they travel to 2A No. 4 Friendship Christian tonight. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Pirtle Field. Outmanned Pickett County comes in 0-5 / 0-3 in the region after a 45-8 loss at Watertown a week ago.

As if the Commanders (4-1 overall / 2-1 region) weren’t enough for Pickett County to handle, the Bobcats have been hit by a rash of ailments ranging from concussions to West Nile Virus and will likely dress only 14 players tonight.

King’s Academy at MJ Christian
The Saints of Mt. Juliet Christian Academy enter tonight’s “Coming Home” game 0-5 and still hungry for a victory. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Suey Field on the MJ Christian campus. MJCA went on the road to Kingsport last week and dropped a 39-21 decision to Tri-Cities Christian after trailing 32-0 at intermission. Next week, the Saints will play at Zion Christian Academy in Columbia.

Wilson Central  at Centennial
The 5-0 Wildcats will be on the road tonight as they play at Franklin’s Centennial High. Wilson Central was dominant in their 45-7 win over Lebanon in Week 4. Quarterback Jordan Roundtree had 202 yards and four touchdowns while the Wildcats’ ground attack gained 247 yards. Centennial (3-1) struggled to stop big plays against Independence giving up three touchdowns on plays of more than 35 yards in a 31-3 loss last week.

Lebanon at Cookeville
A matchup that features Cookeville coming off a lopsided district win and Lebanon  losing seven straight games dating back to last year might on the surface be viewed as a snoozer.

But as fans of both Lebanon and Cookeville know, anything can happen when these two teams get together. In fact, the last four matchups have been decided by eight points or fewer, as have nine out of the last 13.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. tonight at Eddie Watson Stadium on the campus of Cookeville High. Live radio coverage begins at 6:30 on WANT FM-98.9. LHS fans can also view a live webcast at www.atwsportscast.com.

First year Cookeville coach Scott Cook has his team at 2-3 overall after last Friday’s 42-13 win over District 6AAA foe Warren County. Lebanon stands 0-5 after last week’s 45-7 loss to Wilson Central.
