|CU's Hunt holds weekend signings|
|Sunday, September 30, 2012|
Cumberland University is proud to announce the publication of Chasing Rainbows: Building Baseball Champions, by Woody Hunt and Michael Kosser. In conjunction with the release of the book, Hunt will take part in two book signings during Homecoming weekend set for October 5-6 on the CU campus.
The book recounts the long quest for excellence of Coach Hunt and his baseball program at Cumberland. This quest has resulted in 18 conference championships, 11 NAIA World Series appearances and two NAIA national championships. More than 80 of Hunt's players have gone on to play professional baseball and Luis Martinez became the program's first alumnus to make it to the major leagues during the 2011 season.
Hunt will have a book signing at the bi-annual alumni baseball breakfast on October 6 in the Benton Jennings Indoor Facility. The breakfast starts at 8 a.m. and the Alumni Game takes place at 10 a.m.
Fans and interested can buy the book and as part of a signing by the longtime patriarch of the CU baseball program before the Homecoming football game at Nokes-Lasater Field. Hunt will sign from Noon-1:15 p.m. under a tent next to the concession stand on the east side of the stadium. Books may be purchased on-site for $20.
The book relates the inspirational story of Cumberland baseball from its first year as a four-year college program to its status as one of the leading small college baseball programs in the country.
Chasing Rainbows is both a history and a how-to book following the struggles of Hunt, his coaches and his players in their endless desire to settle for nothing less than the best. It took them more than two decades to bag the program's first national championship and Cumberland came heartbreakingly close several times before breaking through in 2004, then again in 2010.
The book is filled with accounts of the highs and lows of the chase, the characters who made the journey with Hunt, and most of all, the inner fire, iron will and human understanding of the man who led the program through to ultimate victory.
The book may also be purchased online from Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Books-A-Million.
