Cumberland University quarterback Reed Gurchiek was voted the Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after posting a nearly perfect day passing and accounting for three touchdowns in just one half of play in a 49-0 victory over Bluefield College. The Mt. Juliet High graduate completed 14-of-16 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns, including a 34-yard TD pass to BJ Stewart and an eight-yard scoring throw to Daniel Dayton, both in the second quarter. Gurchiek also rushed four times for 25 yards with an eight-yard TD run in the first period. The redshirt sophomore is completing 58 percent of his passes for 1,450 yards and nine touchdowns with four interceptions this season. He also has 497 yards rushing and seven more TDs. Gurchiek has thrown just one interception in the last eight games this season covering 147 attempts. Gurchiek is fourth in the Mid-South this season in total offense, averaging 194.7 yards per game, and ranks ninth in passing, averaging 145.0 yards per contest. The Bulldogs (7-3 overall) end the regular season Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Lindsey Wilson. |
