BULLETIN -- Friendship Christian School senior Tanner Martin was named a finalist Thursday morning for the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Award - Class A Lineman. A two-way starter for the Commanders, Martin has helped lead the team to a 9-1 regular season record in 2012 and was a major contributor on last season's Class 2A state championship squad. The other Class A Linemen finalists include: Malik Brewer from Chattanooga's Boyd Buchanan and Gordonsville's Tyler Coen. The Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Awards will be presented to the top 10 backs and linemen in five classifications of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association on Monday, Nov. 26 at the Embassy Suites Hotel & Conference Center in Murfreesboro. A committee of statewide sports writers selected winners based on performance in the 2012 regular season. Academics and character were also taken into consideration. High school head coaches and members of the media nominated the finalists. This is the 28th year that the Mr. Football Awards have been presented to Tennessee’s best high school football players. Plaques will be presented to 22 other finalists. Friendship Christian, the No. 1 seed in their six-team bracket, will host 7-4 Cascade Friday night in the second round of the playiffs. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Pirtle Field. TOMMY BRYAN / This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it |
