Cumberland’s Michael Hagewood was voted the Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after helping the Bulldogs to a 33-32 overtime victory at Lindsey Wilson this past weekend.

In the final game of his career, the senior from Navarre, Fla., collected a career-best 11 tackles, all solo, and returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown, giving CU a 10-7 lead late in the second quarter.

It was his second career touchdown with the other coming on an interception in 2008. Hagewood posted five of CU’s seven interceptions this season and finished second on the club with 77 tackles in 11 games and also recorded eight pass breakups and one tackle for loss.

Hagewood is a sixth-year senior after missing the 2009 season with a neck injury and did not return to school for classes after a severe arm break in the final game of the 2010 campaign.
