Cumberland University baseball coach Woody Hunt announced the 2013 schedule on Friday, which includes 28 home games with four outings under the lights at Veterans Field and 24 contests against teams that advanced to last year’s NAIA Championship Opening Round.
The Bulldogs open the season with a three-game series at perennial power Southern Poly before the home schedule begins February 13 versus Freed-Hardeman at Ernest L. Stockton Field-Woody Hunt Stadium. CU faces Union University and Indiana University-Southeast on Feb. 15-16, with two games each day on campus and one contest every evening at Veterans Field.
Cumberland takes on Auburn Montgomery and Faulkner University on Feb. 17-19 on the road and starts Mid-South Conference action Feb. 22-23 at home versus Georgetown College. CU plays three straight conference series on the road in March against the University of the Cumberlands, Shawnee State and the University of Pikeville.
The Bulldogs will take on Missouri Baptist, Judson College, Martin Methodist and West Virginia Tech in six games over three days on March 11-13, with two of those contests at Veterans Field as well. CU takes on St. Catharine College in a league series at home on March 22-23 and travels to defending national champion Tennessee Wesleyan for a three-game set on March 29-30 during the club’s off weekend from conference play.
Cumberland plays its annual game with Lee University on the road on April 2, part of a 10-game road stretch that includes a doubleheader at Georgia Gwinnett, single games versus Lee, Mid-Continent University and Bethel University, as well as the series at Tennessee Wesleyan and a conference series at Campbellsville University.
The Bulldogs end the regular season with an eight-game homestand starting April 12-13 with a league series against UVA-Wise. CU will also host single games against Mid-Continent and Trevecca Nazarene before wrapping up the regular season with a conference series versus Bluefield College on April 19-20.
The Mid-South Conference Championships takes place in Kingsport, Tenn., on April 25-27 and the NAIA Championship Opening Round begins May 9 at sites to be determined. The 57th Annual Avista-NAIA World Series is set for May 24-31 in Lewiston, Idaho.
