The Bulldogs, 2-0 after opening the season with wins over Fisk and Hiwassee, will entertain Bryan College Thursday and 17th-ranked St. Catharine College on Friday, both at 7 p.m.
CU 81, Fisk 60 (men) -- Kyle Upton hit three 3-pointers and scored 12 points in the first half Jerret Towns added a dozen points as well, leading four Cumberland players in double figures in an 81-60 victory over Fisk University in men’s basketball action Monday night at the Floyd Center.
Eleven of the 13 Bulldogs who played in the contest scored, including six players with nine or more points.
CU took advantage of 20 Fisk miscues, turning those into 25 points, and netted 36 points in the paint thanks to a height advantage in the front court.
Both teams started slowly but the Bulldogs used a 19-8 run over eight minutes to open a 36-20 advantage with 4:41 remaining in the first half. Upton started the spurt with a 3-pointer and Michael Sweat and Andrew Ayodeji each hit a trifecta to end the run.
But Fisk fought back before the half, scoring 10 of the final 13 points before the break, including a 3-pointer from Cameron Lewis and a driving layup by Darrell Miller.
CU took a 39-30 lead to intermission.
Cumberland started the second half on a 10-0 run thanks to eight straight points from Towns, including a pair of 3-pointers.
