SMYRNA -- Lebanon High's bowling team was eliminated by eventual state champion Columbia Central Saturday morning in the semifinals of the TSSAA state championship tournament at the Smyrna Bowling Center.

Tied at 8-8 going into the final game, Columbia won the third game 6-2 to take the contest 14-10. The Lions had a pinfall of 3,549 while LHS went out 3,415.

Senior Jake Manning rolled a 620 series with scores of 211, 199 and 210 for the Blue Devils. Andrew Lawrence bowled 222, 184 and 187 for a 593 series.

LHS ended the season 21-2 overall. Columbia Central defeated Bartlett 21-6 in the finals to finish 23-0.

ON FRIDAY -- Lebanon High's bowling team held on and eliminated Collierville in the quarterfinals of the TSSAA state tournament at the Smyrna Bowling Center.

The Blue Devils, now 21-1 on the season, led 11-5 after two games and came away with a 15-12 victory.

Coach Lynne Jordan's team will take on Columbia Central in Saturday's 9 a.m. semifinal match. The Lions earned a spot in the semifinals with a 21-6 win over Greeneville Friday.

"I'm glad we had a little cushion going into the final game, and it turned out we needed it," Coach Jordan said. "Our guys were holding their own -- maybe saving themselves for Saturday."

LHS totaled 3,320 pins to 3,234 for Collierville. Andrew Lawrence bowled 224, 201 and 177 for a 602 to lead the Blue Devils. Sean Fugate went 215, 207 and 167 for a 589 score.
