Former Mt. Juliet High baseball standout T.J. Diffenderfer is transferring this fall from Minnesota State University to play at Columbia State Community College after red-shirting at MN State.

At CSCC, Diffenderfer will be reunited with former Mt. Juliet teammate Logan Gray. Diffenderfer is playing for the Carolina Stingers this summer in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League based in the Carolina's.

He placed second in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game Home Run Derby held at Winthrop University, Rock Hill, SC earlier this month. Diffenderfer currently leads his team in home runs and second in the league with home runs.

At Mt. Juliet, he started in all four season in baseball for Golden Bears, batting .386 with 56 RBI, 32 doubles, two home runs and seven stolen bases as a senior.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Diffenderfer was named National Merit of Science and National Society of High School Scholar.

JR. HIGH TEAMS TAKE SPOTLIGHT

Wilson Central High will stage its fourth annual Justice Jamboree -- sponsored by local attorney Frank Lannom -- Saturday, Aug. 6 beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The focus this season will be on area junior high programs with two fields in operation, Wildcat Stadium (the WCHS game field) as well as the soccer field located behind the field house.

Teams scheduled to participate include: Carroll Oakland, Lancaster Christian, Walter J. Baird, Whittworth Buchanan, Station Camp, Mt. Juliet, Red Boiling Springs, Southside, West Wilson, Trousdale County and Winfree Bryant. Admission will be $5 per person at the gate.

Wilson Central is scheduled to open the 2011 regular season at home Friday, Aug. 19 as District 9AAA rival Gallatin High comes to Wildcat Stadium for a Week Zero contest.

Lebanon High’s football program will host a “media day” event Saturday, August 6 with an array of activities for Blue Devil fans. Following a morning photo shoot for local newspapers and school publications, a silent auction will get under way at 5 p.m. At 6 p.m. LHS players will serve a steak dinner with all the trimmings. Tickets for the steak dinner are $25 each and are available from Blue Devil players.

A “media day” fan fair is planned for 7:30 p.m. with introductions of all LHS players, as well as introductions of players from participating feeder schools.

Lebanon is scheduled to open the 2011 regular season at home Friday, Aug. 19 as District 9AAA powerhouse Mt. Juliet comes to Nokes-Lasater Field for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Season tickets will go on sale Monday, Aug. 1 at the LHS main office.

Monday, Aug. 1 marks the first day TSSAA allows teams to don full pads in preperation for the Aug. 19 Week Zero season-openers.

The Tennessee Sports Writers Association has released all-state teams for Spring of 2011 -- soccer, softball and baseball. Six Wilson County prep athletes where honored, including.

Division II soccer: Sam Mummert of Mt. Juliet Christian Academy. The junior scored over 30 goals for the Saints in 2011.

Class AAA softball: INF Sarah Beth Roberts of Mt. Juliet High. Roberts hit .469 with 31 RBI and 42 runs scored. The District 9AAA MVP struck out only twice all season.

Class A softball: INF Laurel Burroughs of Friendship Christian School. Burrough his .471 for the season with 10 doubles, five triples, 12 HRs and 35 runs batted in.

Class A baseball: INF Kyle Wood and OF Chris Hall of state runner-up Friendship Christian School. Wood hit .465 BA with 46 runs scored, 10 homers, 15 doubles 59 RBI and was 15-for-15 on stolen bases. Hall hit .453 with 58 runs scored; four homers, 10 doubles 35 RBI and was a perfect 20-for-22 on stolen bases.

Class AAA baseball: OF Devin Fish of Wilson Central. Fish, the District 9AAA MVP, hit .504 on the season with 11 doubles, four triples and 30 runs batted in. He had a 28-game hitting streak.
