Saturday is packed full of fun activities. On May 14 fitness enthusiasts from all over will unite to run or walk in the Go Johnny Go Memorial 5k/10k and Fun Run. Proceeds from this event will go to the Johnny Keel Wellness Foundation, a tax exempt 501c, which partners with local organizations to promote healthy living through exercise, diet, screenings and education. We knew Johnny Keel and are proud to be a sponsor of this event. Please join Wilson Living and many others Saturday morning.
“Never Give Up” was Keel’s motto. Johnny’s 10-year battle with colon cancer is truly inspirational....when faced with his illness, he chose to take on the journey to fight it tooth and nail instead of giving up and taking the path of least resistance.
The race starts 8 a.m. at Sports Village. You can register the day of the race beginning at 6:30 a.m. The cost to participate is $20. If you wait until the day of, registration goes up to $30. For more information, call 449-0031.
If you’d prefer riding over running you’ll want to head to the inaugural “Hawgs for Dawgs” Poker Run to benefit New Leash on Life. This rider and dog friendly event will feature a spectacular route winding through the beautiful countryside of Middle Tennessee. Registration will be from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Veteran’s Building on the grounds of the James E. Ward Agricultural Center where a delicious Biscuit
Breakfast is being planned. Additional stops include the Watermelon Moon Farm, The Timberloft Restaurant and AJ’s Bar & Grill. The final stop is at The Bull and Whistle located at The Mill in Lebanon where prizes will be awarded for the highest and lowest hands. All bikes are welcome.
Activities will include the first Ruff Raffle, a 50/50 drawing, silent auction and great music. The New Leash on Life staff will be on-site to help you find the perfect furry addition to your family. They will also have information on hand to help spread the word about what we can do to prevent pet over-population.
Riders may register on line at www.NewLeashOnLine.org.
After your run or ride you may want to visit the Percy Priest Lake area of Nashville for the “Toast to Tennessee Wine Festival.” The festival is held each year in May at Nashville Shores. More than 20 Tennessee-based wineries will be offering samples of their wine. Visitors can also shop various vendors offering gourmet foods, gifts and many other items. You’ll want to visit Wilson County’s Crystal Couture at the event. They will have a gorgeous selection of specialty “bling” on hand. In addition to all the food and wine, guests will be treated to live music, free wine appreciation seminars and free lake cruises (weather permitting). Call 615-758-3478 for more information.
