SUV crashes into The Jewelers, no one injured

The Jewelers of Lebanon received a scare Thursday morning when a grey Ford SUV crashed through their storefront located in Westview Plaza on West Main Street.

Eyewitness Tara Duncan, of Lebanon, said the SUV flew right by her as she was entering her car to leave Sun Tan City, located next door to The Jewelers.

The vehicle never stopped, she said, adding that the incident occurred just before 11 a.m.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Elroy Cantrell, 66, of Lebanon.

Lebanon Police Officer Wayne Howard said that Cantrell was driving the vehicle in the Westview Plaza parking lot, with his wife in the passenger seat, when he experienced a coughing spell.

He said that he meant to hit the brake but hit the accelerator instead, Howard explained. It was an accident.

The officer noted that both of the vehicle passengers refused hospital treatment and that no Jewelers employees were injured.
