LEBANON -- Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, April 14 at Partlow Funeral Chapel for Mr. Tom Allen Sanders, 88, of Lebanon.
A US Navy veteran of World War II and retired after 30 years with the federal government flight instructor supervisor for the US Air Force, Mr. Sanders died Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Pavilion.
He was born May 4, 1922 in the Vesta Community to the late Irving and Carrie Hudson Sanders, he was a member of the College Hills Church of Christ. He attended Mt. Juliet High School and joined the US Navy where he was assigned to aircraft carriers, fighters, and dive bombers.
After discharge, he attended farming classes under the direction of the University of Tennessee for three years. He retired from Eglin Air Force Base at Ft. Walton Beach, FL in 1977, returning to Wilson County where he raised beef cattle.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 13, from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m. until services.
Services will be conducted by Dr. Larry Locke. Interment will be in the Wilson County Memorial Park.
Survivors include: daughter Norma S. (Dr. James) Morris; sisters Hallie Tuggle and Janelle Grimland; grandchildren Dr. Melanie S. Morris (Chris Cronenwett), James W. (Jennifer) Morris III, Meredith L. Hunter, W. Nathan Hunter II and Melissa (Jason) Smith; great grandchildren Jonah Thomas Cronenwett and Maile Angelina Morris.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sanders in preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, the late Jessie Lee Maddux.
Active pallbearers: James W. Morris III, Nathan Hunter II, Chris Cronenwett, Jason Smith, Kenneth Harris, Jerry Maddux, Landis Sanders, Dr. Morris Ferguson and Jeff Porter. Honorary: Neal Oakley, Tommy Knowles, Johnny Clark, John Freeman, Robert Dedman, Jimmy Wright and Dr. Larimore Warren.
