To the Editor:

Walter J. Baird Middle School would like to express appreciation for the support received from our students, faculty and staff, and the Lebanon community during our new True Blue Day fund raiser.

Our school has conducted a magazine drive as our fund raiser for many years. This year was a big change as we moved from the magazine drive to our new fund raising effort, True Blue Day. With this new format students learned the value of giving back as each was encouraged to bring monetary donations to support their school.

These collection days culminated in a big celebration on Oct.1, True Blue Day. Students enjoyed festivities throughout the day including dunking favorite staff members in a dunking booth as well as throwing pies in some faces. A large inflatable obstacle course and rock wall/slide provided great entertainment along with a bungee sports challenge. There were several races and competitions, many indoor activities and door prizes. All students participated in the celebration regardless of giving, with levels of giving available for students to earn greater rewards. True Blue Day was a great way for our school to raise money while allowing the students to have a little fun -- a win-win situation!

Walter J. Baird would like to thank the following businesses who provided financial support for door prizes and other costs associated with the event: Warren & Associates, Partlow Funeral Chapel, Cumberland Animal Hospital, James P. Bryant, CPA; Demos', Pro-Shine Auto Detailing, Walmart, Sports World, Michael's Café, Cracker Barrel, Sonic and Chick-Fil-A.

We also thank the following people for providing gifts for faculty and student door prizes: Tony and Tammy Baird, Jeff and Mitzi Blair, Julie Benson, James and Sherry Bryant, Kevin and Julie Carr, Josh and Monica Duvall, Rachel Grant, Tommy and Betty Hailey, Dwight and Jennifer Haddock, Bruce and Tracy Hallums, Shawna Jennings, Scotty and Tammy Lee, Jason and Kathy Partlow, Russell and Jackie Payne, John and Traci Pope, Royce and Anita Slaven, Kristy Stephens, Jerry and Lee Anne Warren, and Randall and Ellen Warren.

Walter J. Baird promotes Respect, Responsibility, Participation and Compassion as our True Blue Core Values. This True Blue Spirit is the reason we say, "Every day is a great day at Walter J!"
