TSAC honors Springer, again
LEBANON -- Cumberland University’s Brandon Springer continues to rack up awards during his senior season, taking home TranSouth Conference Player of the Week honors for the week ending Feb. 14, the league announced Monday. The 6-foot-5 guard from Nashville averaged a double-double and led Cumberland to a 2-0 record with conference wins over Blue Mountain College and rival Trevecca Nazarene.
Springer, who has now garnered TSAC Player of the Week accolades four times this season and five in his career, scored 31 points against the Toppers and 26 against the Trojans. He also snagged a personal-best 16 rebounds in the Trevecca contest.
For the week the Columbia State Community College transfer also added eight steals to his team-leading total. The Hunters Lane High School product, who is just eight points from becoming the fourth player under CU coach Lonnie Thompson to reach 1,000 points for a career, is currently third in the NAIA in scoring, averaging 23.8 points per outing.
Following the week that ended Jan. 24, Springer was also tabbed the national Player of the Week.
The Bulldogs, who are a half game out of third place in the TranSouth standings, will be in action Monday night at Union University before returning home to face Bethel University on Thursday.
