Top seeded in their respective divisions, two Wilson Central High wrestlers earned state title Saturday at the TSSAA State Championships held at the Williamson County Ag Expo Center.
Senior Austin Richard pinned four opponents to reach the finals where he decisioned Cleveland’s Austin Stevison 7-4 in the 132-pound finals.
“I was determined to get back to the finals and get my redemption against him,” Richard said.
Richard, who finished the season 64-1, suffered his only loss of the year in the state duals to Stevison, on an illegal move call in overtime.
“I didn’t think it was an illegal move in the duals, but I came back when it mattered.”
Junior John Kramer trailed Ravenwood’s Rex Shott 4-5 going into the third round of the 220-pound finals, but came from behind for a 5-4 victory.
“I felt a lot of pressure, just because I was in the finals last year,” Kramer said, “I didn’t want to make a mistake before getting back to the finals this year.”
Kramer finished the season 62-2 overall.
Wildcat junior Lane Dickeson (57-5) reached the finals of the 126-pound division, where he lost to Cleveland’s top-seeded Christopher Debien on a first period pin.
Other Wilson Central medalists included: senior Chris Cerrito (61-5), 120-pounds -- defeating Devan Cyree of Tullahoma in the fifth place match.
Junior Mike Binns (62-7) defeated Austin Oliver of Cleveland in the third place match of the 152-pound division.
Wilson Central finished second to Cleveland’s 215 team points for the team championship with 166.5 points.
