LEBANON – Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, November 29 at the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home for Mr. Swain, 92, of Gladeville.
Retired from a distinguished teaching career in Wilson and Metro-Nashville Public Schools, Mr. Swain passed away November 24, 2008.
Known as "Papa" to his loving family, Mr. Swain was the son of the late Henry Edgar and Ella Frances Estes Swain.
He was a graduate of Walter Hill High School, attended Cumberland University where he played baseball, and was a graduate Middle Tennessee State University. He was a lifetime member of the Gladeville United Methodist Church serving as Chairman of the Administrative Board, Trustee and Adult Sunday School teacher.
Mr. Swain was a charter member of the Gladeville Lions Club and played baseball in Gladeville and surrounding counties as a young man.
Visitation is set Friday 2-8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Services will be conducted by Jason Swain, Rev. Charles Walker and Bro. Bill Speight. Interment will follow at the Wilson County Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include: his wife of 68 years Mary Wilson Robinson Swain; sons Paul Wilson (Carolyn) Swain and James Edwin (Judy) Swain — all of Gladeville.
Also surviving are grandchildren Lisa (Ken) Quast, Krista (Jeff) Hall, Brian (Diana) Swain, Kelli (Drew) Hendry and Jason (Lindsay) Swain; 13 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Sidney and Will Swain, sisters Sallie Sanders, Ruby Harris, Ruth Towns and Irene Bell; and great granddaughter Summar Jean Swain.
Honorary pallbearers: caregiver Betty Brasher, Jack White and Rev. Eltis Brown. Active pallbearers: Jason and Brian Swain, Ken Quast, Jeff Hall, Drew Hendry, Darryl Robinson, Billy Cook, Claude Harris and Tommy Williams.
