The Tioga, Pa., native first set foot on the CU campus in 1987 and has been with the University ever since except for the 2000-01 academic year when he taught in the Coaching & Sports Administration Department at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Miss.
He came to Cumberland in 1987, taking 18 hours of undergraduate work in Physical Education while also serving as an assistant women’s basketball coach under Rick Reeves.
When Reeves departed, Walters became the women’s head coach, serving in that capacity from 1989-95. He has also been the head coach for men’s and women’s soccer on two occasions (1987-90, 1995-99) as well as the head softball coach from 1987-89, and was also the Intramural Sports Director from 1987-91.
Walters has served as the athletic department’s Faculty Athletic Representative since 2001, serving as a liaison for athletics with all academic departments on campus.
He has also been a member of the Bulldog radio crew for baseball since its inception in 1997. Walters served three years in the military at Fort Shafter in Hawaii after graduating from high school.
Walters attended Penn State and received his bachelor’s in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Earth-Space Science/Geology from Mansfield University in 1987.
He also received a master’s in Physical Education with an emphasis in Athletic Administration from Middle Tennessee in 1988.
