GIRLS PLAY OPENS FRIDAY -- As one of the top two seeds in this week’s District 8-A basketball tournament, the host Watertown High Tigerettes are assured of a berth in next week’s regional.
But Coach Lane Price’s youthful team (18-9 / 9-1) still hopes to make some noise as they open district play Friday at 7:30 p.m. No. 3-seeded Red Boiling Springs (11-17), a 58-38 winner over No. 6-seed Trousdale County.
Top-seeded Goodpasture (18-7 / 9-1) is in the other bracket and will play No. 5 seeded Merrol Hyde (6-12), a 50-44 winner over No. 4 Gordonsville Tuesday. That semifinal will be played Friday at 6 p.m.
The girls championship game is slated for Monday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Earlier in the evening at 6 p.m., the third place game will be played.
