Watertown sweeps at Monterey

Watertown High’s basketball teams have been busy, playing three games over a stretch of four days -- including a doubleheader sweep Monday night, Dec. 16 at Monterey.

The Tigerettes of Coach Lane Price knocked off Monterey 44-38 in Monday’s opener -- holding off a late Lady Wildcat run and improving to 8-4 on the season. Jasmine High paced Watertown with 12 points and Shelby Mofield finished with nine.

The Purple Tigers upped their record to 6-5 with a 60-54 win over Monterey in the nightcap. Ty Jobe and Seth Price again showed the way. Jobe finished with 20 on a 7-of-15 shooting effort while Price bombed away from outside -- hitting four 3-pointers -- for 15 points.

(girls) Pickett Co. 55, Watertown 51
WATERTOWN -- Pickett County held off a furious second half comeback effort by Watertown in Saturday’s 55-51 win over the Tigerettes.

While no single player broke into double figures for Watertown, 10 Tigerettes made the scoring column -- paced by Shelby Mofield with nine points and Bobbi Staats with seven. WHS trailed 13-9 after the first quarter, but played the Lady Bobcats pretty much even the rest of the way.

(boys) Pickett Co. 59, Watertown 57
WATERTOWN -- Pickett County and Watertown battled in a seesaw affair that found the Bobcats coming out on top 59-57 Saturday evening. Jobe with 17 points and Price with 14 led the Tiger attack -- with each player knocking down two 3-pointers.

(girls) Watertown 66, Merrol Hyde 30
HENDERSONVILLE -- Watertown’s Tigerettes pulled away for an easy 66-30 road win at Merrol Hyde Friday,
Dec. 13. The game was tied at 14-all after one quarter, but WHS put the contest on ice with am 18-3 burst and took a 32-17 lead into intermission.

Staats had 15 points and Bay Cole 14 while Mya Huddleston finished with eight. Mya Gaines and Alicia Jennings each had seven points for the winners.

(boys) Watertown 60, Merrol Hyde 48
HENDERSONVILLE -- Three Purple Tigers reached double figures in Friday night’s 60-48 road win at Merrol Hyde.

Price led Watertown with 13 points, Jobe had 11 and Zach Edwards 10. Dylan Speck had nine points and Hunter Warren eight.
