Wilson Living: Enjoy Weekend Events and Help Give Back To The Community

By ANGEL KANEWilson Living MagazineAs many are aware by now, the first ever “Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Wilson County 5k Walk/Fun-Run” is scheduled for Saturday, May 22 in downtown Lebanon. The event has a special meaning to Wilson Living Magazine because little Josephine, the poster child of the event, was featured in the magazine last year. Since then we’ve kept in touch with her amazing family and have been proud of their efforts to help raise money for other families in the area affected by this disease. Many groups are participating including local schools, churches and fire stations. Of course, Wilson Living has a team and plan to be in attendance at 10 a.m. when the walk/run begins. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and if you have not yet registered there is still time. Go to www.greatstrides.cff.org and find the Wilson County Walk. You can sign up and become a part of this inaugural event that will help local children fight to cure cystic fibrosis. After the event, be sure to enjoy the “Celtic Country Faire” at the Wilson County Fairgrounds in Lebanon. There will be live Celtic music, Irish step dancers, Scottish bagpipers, vendor booths, pony rides and all sorts of activities for the children. The proceeds of the event will benefit Southern STARRS, a therapeutic horseback riding program for special needs children and adults. For more information about this event and STARRS, please go to www.southernstarrs.org. And if the day was not busy enough, plan to cool off by attending the “First Annual Cannonballs For Charis Big Splash Contest” at Jimmy Floyd Family Life Center. Charis Health Center is an affordable primary heath care facility providing care for those working but who do not have insurance in Wilson County. Prizes will be given for the biggest splash and proceeds will help continue the good work of this organization. To learn more, go to www.charishealthcenter.org. Make sure to mark your calendars to attend all these events because your support will directly help many of your neighbors.
