Wtown soldier dies from injuries

Born September 9, 1986, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he is the son of Robert Anthony and Jacqueline Ann Godfrey O’Neill of Watertown.

Spec. O’Neill was a graduate of Zephyrhills High School and was a Catholic. He had served in the United States Army since January 2007 assigned to the 549th Military Police Company at Fort Stewart, Georgia. He had been deployed for fifteen months.

President Barack Obama presented him the Purple Heart and the Presidential Coin on June 4, 2009, at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, John A. & Muriel Godfrey of Monroe, Connecticut.

He is survived by his parents, Bob and Jackie O’Neill; siblings Brian O’Neill, Matthew O’Neill and Kaitlyn O’Neill — all of Watertown; paternal grandparents Robert P. and Mary Ellen O’Neill of Zephyrhills, FL; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
