Four Mt. Juliet residents have expressed an interest in replacing Brian Abston as the District 4 city commissioner.
Last month Abston resigned because he is moving out of his district. Whomever fills his vacated position must be approved by the commission and will serve until the 2020 election.
Mt. Juliet Mayor Ed Hagerty told the Wilson Post on Monday night that in addition to former Wilson County Convention & Visitor’s Bureau Executive Director Ricky Rodriguez, three others have expressed interest to City Manager Kenny Martin about the seat.
One is former longtime commissioner Jim Bradshaw, whom Abston replaced six ago. According to Hagerty, former Mt. Juliet finance director John Rossmaier and businessman Gerard Bullock also want to be nominated.
Hagerty said he is a bit frustrated because no one has come to the commission to express interest.
“They need to be nominated, and they need to reach out to campaign for the seat and tell us about themselves,” Hagerty said. “I personally have not heard from any of them.”
Abston nominated Rodriguez to fill his position.
If there is not a vote to replace Abston by Aug. 24 there will be a special election to fill the seat, Hagerty said.
