Just ahead of St. Patrick’s Day, the Nashville Irish Step Dancers (NISD) will bring a taste of the Emerald Isle to Lebanon’s Capitol Theatre on March 10 and 11.

With their upcoming performance of Celtic Rhythms on Fire, an energetic fusion of Irish dance, music and song, the local dance troupe will bring a “celebration of the rich and vibrant artistry of Irish dance and music, and, in a larger sense, the fiery spirit of the Irish culture and heritage” to West Main Street, according to NISD founder and champion dancer Mary Moran.

“The show features not only the more traditional elements – such as the jig, reel and hornpipe, but also explores more progressive styles of Irish dance and music. The collaboration between the dancers, musicians and singers really results in a spirited lively exchange,” Moran explained. “And, of course, the audience is a big part of that – we have something for everyone and all age groups. We have our own interpretations of ‘Cotton-Eyed Joe,’ ‘Lord of the Dance’ and ‘Gypsy,’ an innovative and cutting edge choreography, Celtic singers, ‘24K’ by Bruno Mars and ‘Galway Girl’ by Ed Sheeran.

The dance troupe, currently more than 100 members strong, will be joined for the performance by Irish duo Kettle of Fish, a musical act that offers a traditional blend of fiddle, mandolin and vocals and frequently performs at McNamara’s Irish Pub in nearby Donelson.

Since 2000, NISD has won numerous awards at the Southern Regional Irish Dance Championship, North American Irish Dance Championship, All-Ireland’s Championship and placed at the World Championship in Dublin, Ireland. For the 18th year, the group will perform on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry on St. Patrick’s Day.

The dancers will perform Celtic Rhythms on Fire on Saturday, March 10, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 11, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for seniors 65 and older as well as children ages 3-12 and groups of 10 or more. Adult and teen tickets are $20 each. To purchase tickets, visit www.nashvilleirishstepdancers.com or call the Capitol Theatre at (615) 784-4014.
