It was all about kindness on Wednesday, May 8, as Wilson County residents turned out to Stuff the Bus at Don Fox Park.

Approximately 100 Friendship Christian students greeted the donors at the park. Event organizers estimated that more than 10,000 items and more than $1,000 was donated.

According to Beth Petty, director of the Family Resource Center of the Lebanon Special School District, this is the first time that the event which supports the Summer Backpack Program has been held. The program helps to feed students during the summer break.

“We hope this will become an annual event,” Petty said, citing the partnership with the Leadership Wilson Sparks of Kindness team and LSSD.

“You’ll never regret being kind,” said Connie Gray, director of School Age Child Care. “We set out to make Wilson the kindest county in Tennessee.”

Newly promoted LSSD Assistant Director of Schools Becky Kegley noted the importance of compassion among students and how it can be contagious.

“If you get the kids involved, you can get the parents involved to make an impact,” she said.
