Kay Maynard, agent and owner of Kay Maynard State Farm in Lebanon, was born and raised in Chicago.

In 1997, Maynard moved south to Murfreesboro, where she was enrolled as a freshman at Middle Tennessee State University. She knew quickly that Tennessee was meant to be her home.

It was her husband, Elmichael Maynard, who brought her to Lebanon.

The couple met at a birthday party for mutual friend, Wendy Hellum. They have been married for 20 months, Maynard said.

On Sept. 1, 2016, Maynard opened her State Farm office at 1712 W. Main Street.

The most rewarding part of her job as an agent is “a tie between educating people on the important role insurance plays in their lives and helping them put plans in place to protect what is most important to them,” Maynard said.

She and Elmichael do not have any children “yet,” but stay very busy. Maynard’s favorite activities include coaching and playing basketball, swimming, reading, writing, cheering on the Tennessee Titans and making music.

She is a member of Wilson Once, Lebanon’s CORE BNI Networking Group, the Wilson County Civic League and the Rutherford County Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

She is a member of Allen Chapel AME Church in Murfreesboro.

Many women have positively influenced her life.

“A couple people are my mom, who taught me the importance of good character and how to treat people regardless of their actions and Diane Nash because of her commitment and perseverance to justice and equality for all citizens,” she said.
