Lisa A. Tomlinson is kicking off 2018 in a big way.

The seasoned attorney, who is in her 11th year of practice, will open a boutique law firm in The Arcade on the Lebanon Square this January.

The Nashville School of Law graduate previously practiced at Vance Law Office in Watertown from April 20, 2007 until December 31, 2010. She joined MacPherson & Youmans in Lebanon on January 1, 2011.

“Opening my own firm feels like a very natural progression in my career and in this phase of my life,” she told The Wilson Post. “I’ve worked at two amazing law firms since I began practicing law in 2007. I’ve been blessed to work with wonderful people who care about me and who have mentored me. First, Robin Vance, and then Robert MacPherson and Elizabeth Youmans, and in each of these firms I had leadership, security and stability … I am the attorney I am today because of these people.”

Watching local ladies take a leap of faith in opening small businesses this past year inspired Tomlinson to branch out on her own.

“I’ll be 40 next September, and I decided that 39 was the perfect age to start my own firm and to redefine my future. The possibilities feel endless,” she said.

Tomlinson selected The Arcade as her location. Although renovations have made it an exciting, “new” space – Tomlinson loves the history.

“I’ve lived in Lebanon my entire life, and I had no idea what The Arcade was until a few months ago. Mike Manous and Hal Bone have poured their hearts into renovating the building from top to bottom to include officer and retail space, and Venue 142, which is a gorgeous event space on the second floor,” she explained. “I’m drawn to old buildings with great bones and great history – and I fell in love with The Arcade the moment I walked in the door.”

Tomlinson’s will be a boutique law firm focusing exclusively on family law – including adoption, custody, divorce, LGBTQ divorce and family matters, dependency and neglect actions, and crisis and reputation management.

“‘Boutique’ is a business buzzword these days, but I actually appreciate the description, and it is really the way of the future because it allows the attorney to focus on a specific, niche area of the law without overextending one’s time and abilities,” Tomlinson explained. “My practice is client-centered, and I provide fierce, compassionate advocacy for families in crisis.”

Tomlinson is an eighth-generation Wilson Countian, a 1996 graduate of Lebanon High School and a 2000 graduate of Cumberland University. She served as president for the 15th Judicial District Bar Association in 2014.
