Joe Gibbs Toyotas run out front –
GLADEVILLE – It rained on Nashville Superspeedway’s parade Sunday, with a heavy downpour and two stoppages due to lightning interrupting the running of the Ally 400 NASCAR Cup race.
At presstime, Kyle Busch was leading with 195 laps completed of the 300-lap race. Busch had rallied from last place in the 36-car field after spinning in Saturday’s qualifying.
Busch, with one win earlier this season at Bristol, is in good shape in terms of the NASCAR playoffs, while Martin Truex, Jr. running second, is still chasing his first series victory.
Pole sitter Denny Hamlin had dominated much of the first half of the race until falling from first to seventh thanks to a slow pitstop.
Sunday’s crowd was slightly less than last year’s 38,000-seat sellout, possibly due to the rainy forecast. The fans who turned out were treated to the most competitive racing in the track’s history, with tight side-by-side racing throughout the field.
Having past the halfway point last night, the race will be official when completed, and the full results will be posted later via Main Street Nashville and www.wilsonpost.com.
